To do this, we worked to come up with a group of designs that are perfect for common scenarios (essays, lab reports, books, legal documents, etc.). Once we had created the Design tab and style sets gallery, we decided to refresh the sets themselves to ensure the various options provided in Word 2013 be both modern and varied. By making them a large gallery, you can quickly experiment with them to find which one you want – in just one click you can go from a casual multicolored document to a professional looking black and white document with numbered headings.
Our goal here was to give you a sense for each choice by showing you a pictures of the Title, Heading 1 and some body text. (For those of you who are new to Style Sets, I’ll explain them in more detail further down.) One of my favorite new design features is the visual gallery for Word’s Style Sets. Use the tab before you create your document if you want to write it in your final font & color combination, or use it after you’re done to watch your document transform before your eyes. Good thing is that you can install the Microsoft fonts on Ubuntu and other distributions easily. They require you to submit the documents in one of those fonts.
A very common scenario is that Microsoft’s fonts are the only option is in schools, universities and other public and private organizations. However Liberation fonts are not identical to Microsoft’s fonts and in some cases you may need to use Arial or Times New Roman. When you open a document written in Times New Roman, the equivalent Liberation Font will be used to keep the document uninterrupted. The Liberation Fonts were created by Red Hat to substitute Arial, Arial Narrow, Times New Roman and Courier New as their width is the same. This is why Ubuntu and other Linux distributions use an open source fonts “Liberation fonts” to substitute Microsoft fonts by default.

Many Linux distributions don’t provide proprietary software by default to avoid licensing issue. Times New Roman, Arial and other such fonts are owned by Microsoft and they are not open source.
